[Myths about Eyelid Surgery]

Q1. Non-incisional double eyelid surgery does not last long?

A1. False.

Many people think the non-incisional method cannot create long lasting results, but that is not true.

It is very important to choose a surgical method that suits you.

The non-incisional method is usually suitable for people with thick eyelid skin.

Also, since the BK single knot method pinches more than 3 times continuously
compared to other existing buried suture methods, the results are not reversible even with frequent irritation.

Q2. Recurrence is common after outer corner extension?

A2. False.

Through recovery process after surgery, the healing of surgical site may make you think that the surgery has failed.

Previously, extension was only allowed up to 3 mm, creating dis-satisfactory results for patients.

However, through a lot of research, BK has come up with a surgical method which can extend the outer corners of the eyes up to 5 mm without recurrence.

This procedure has been acknowledged by both domestic and international conferences for its effectiveness, and may other surgeons are now using this method.

Q3. People with keloid skin type should not receive eyelid surgery?

A3. False.

Keloid usually forms on places when tension builds on wounds located on places such as the chest, abdomen, shoulder, and earlobes.

This means that Keloid hardly ever appears on the eyelids after eyelid surgery.

However, the severity of Keloid varies on an individual basis and you must consult with a specialist for accurate information before having any procedures done.

Q4. Incisional double eyelid surgery leaves a severe scar?

A4. False.

When the incisional double eyelid surgery is performed, it is true that scarring is more distinctive than the non-incisional method.

However, the scar gradually fades away after a certain time period, and will look like your double eyelid crease rather than a scar.

[Myths about Nose Surgery]

Q1. Nose surgery prevents piggy nose?

A1. False.

When only one implant is inserted into both the nasal bridge and nasal tip, there is limitation in the movement of the nose.

However, recent surgical methods now separate the procedure.

An implant for the nasal bridge and cartilage for the nasal tip allowing for a natural curve in the nose.

But it is still important to make sure the bridge of the nose isn't too high.

Q2. Your nose becomes red in winter because after nose surgery?

A2. False.

People have not had plastic surgery may have a red nose
when it is cold.

These days, instead of L-shaped implants, autologous cartilages are used for nasal tip surgery meaning it does not cause redness on your nose when it is cold.

Q3. When your skin is too thin, you may be able to see the implant?

A3. True.

You can undergo nose surgery even when the skin on your nasal bridge is thin.

However, the implant may have a greater chance of being visible.

That is why we delicately adjust the implant to reduce its chance of visibility.

Also, people with thin skin should not elevate their nose too high.

Q4. Deviated nose correction can also fix chronic rhinitis?

A4. True.

A deviated nose usually means that both the nasal bone and septal cartilage are deviated.

When the septal cartilage is deviated, it may cause difficulty when breathing and will often lead to chronic rhinitis and sinusitis.

Thus, deviated nose correction can enhance the airways therefore also improving the overall nasal condition.

[Other Myths]

Q1. Getting plastic surgery in the Summer may lead to infection?

A1. False.

Some people worry that if the weather is hot, the surgical wound will heal much slower and will become infected.

However, the recovery process is not affected by the weather or seasons.

On the contrary, hot weather can actually increase the blood circulation in the skin which can help to prevent infection.

Q2. You can't breastfeed after breast augmentation?

A2. False.

Breast augmentation is performed on a different location from the ducts needed during breastfeeding.

This means that the implants do not interfere with giving birth and breastfeeding.

Q3. Pain after facial contouring surgery is severe and long lasting?

A3. False.

Bones do not have any sensation meaning that you cannot feel any pain on the actual bones.

The pain you feel is not from the bones, but actually from the nerves and muscles surrounding them because they have been re-positioned.

Q4. Surgical sites after liposuction become bumpy?

A4. False.

If your skin is bumpy after liposuction, it means that there has been too much fat removed at once which has caused destruction of the skin layers.

At BK Plastic Surgery we use a thin cannula, called ultra-Z, to dissolve fat via ultrasound without damaging nearby tissues so that the skin surface will be even and smooth.
