Post-Operative Instructions

1. Stop taking all medications for cold, allergies, and other supplements 1 week prior to surgery. Your medication for blood pressure and diabetes must be verified with the doctor during your consultation.

2. Drinking and Smoking is prohibited 1 week prior to surgery.

3. If you are experiencing a severe cold, you must consult with your doctor since it may affect your respiratory system and prolong your recovery from the anesthesia after surgery.

4. Avoid eating and/or drinking, including water, up to 8 hours prior to surgery.

5. Before coming to the hospital wear comfortable clothing and no accessories. Also erase all make-up and nail polish.

6. There is a limitation to the amount of weight loss via liposuction.

7. Applying proper exercise and diet will lead to better results.

Post-Operative Instructions

1. It is better to move around in the house then complete bed rest.

2. Have a guardian present when going to the bathroom for the first 48 hours.

3. 6 days after surgery stitches are removed for abdominal liposuction.

4. Light exercise is recommended after 2-3 days.

5. Avoid smoking and drinking for at least 4 weeks.

6. Participation is active exercises such as golf, swimming, tennis etc, is possible after 2 weeks.

7. Swelling and bruising may last up to 2-4 weeks after surgery.

8. Numbness on the surgical sites should disappear with in the first 3-4 months.

9. Wearing elastic garments or tights during the first 5 months after surgery can prevent swelling and skin irregularities.

10. Effects of surgery are most visually distinct after 4-5 months.

11. For the best results, we recommend post-operative care service around one month after surgery.

Rhinoplasty or Nose Surgery, along with eye surgery, are known as some of the more basic procedures that can give you a whole new appearance without out too much down time.  The problem is that without the proper pre and post operative care, the outcome of the surgery may differ.

Here at BK Hospital we want to ensure that our patients see positive and successful results after surgery, which is why knowing about both pre and post operative care is so important.

Pre-Operative Instructions

Things to Avoid

No smoking or drinking one week prior to surgery.

Avoid eating and drinking, including water, 8 hours prior to surgery.

Do not drive without a guardian on the day of surgery.

Medications

All medications must be verified with the doctor during the consultation.

Medications for blood pressure, diabetes, and thyroid problems must be taken with a little amount of water on the day of surgery.

Clothing & Make-Up on the Day of Surgery

Wear comfortable clothes with no accessories.  Remove all make up, including nail polish, before coming to the hospital.

Post-Operative Instructions

Swelling

Moderate swelling can be expected immediately following surgery.  Swelling is most severe 2-3 days after surgery.  This swelling will usually subside within a week.

Washing Your Face

Wash your face 5-7 days after stitches have been removed.

Bleeding

Bleeding may continue until the 2nd day following surgery.  It is okay to wipe the blood with a clean tissue.  But DO NOT wipe any blood that has scabbed, or dried.

Things to Avoid

Avoid reading or using the computer for up to 1 week after surgery.

Avoid saunas, smoking and drinking for 1 month after surgery.

Avoid wearing glasses or frowning for 2-3 weeks after surgery to prevent any movement of the nose implant. 

Ice Pack & Warm Pack

Apply an ice pack for 3-5 days following surgery.

After that, use a warm pack for 2 more weeks to help reduce swelling.

Redness

Redness around the surgical site is a normal reaction.  It will gradually disappear after 3-6 months.  The healing process may vary on an individual basis.

Fat Grafting is fast becoming popular among patients of all ages for its ability to add volume to the face and body.  It's just a plus that the fat used in this procedure is taken from areas with unwanted fat, such as the thighs and abdomen.

Recovery Process

Post-Operative Instructions

Swelling

Major swelling develops 1-3 days after surgery and will subside within 7-10 days.
(Make-up is allowed during the recovery period)

Do not mistake the reduction of swelling for fat resorption.

(Temporary but noticeable facial asymmetry may also develop during this period)

Pain and Bruising

Fat Grafting in the forehead can cause swelling around the eyes, and pain may occur on the donor sites.

(Degrees of pain and bruising may vary depending on the individual)

Follow Up

Stitches are removed from the donor sites, mainly the thighs, 7 days after surgery.

Follow up is needed 1-2 months after surgery to observe the progress.

(Bandages on the thigh may be removed on the following day)

Recovery Care

Pressure on graft sites should be avoided to prevent irregularities on the skin surface.  Also avoid wearing hats.

Do not apply any type of warm or ice pack.

Avoid smoking, drinking, facial massages, and hot bathes for one month.

Scarring

Slight redness, 1-2 mm on the donor site, is a normal skin reaction following surgery.  It will gradually disappear within 3-6 months, but depending on the individual may take up to 1 year.

Certain types of skin may form subtle scars, but they are nearly unnoticeable under normal circumstances.

Asymmetry

Facial asymmetry is natural, but following the operation one may feel more sensitive about their facial asymmetry.

Unless intended, fat grafting does not correct nor exaggerate this condition.

Side Effects

Approximately 1% of those who receive fat grafts will experience infection.

It can be treated with antibiotics, or in more severe cases the grafted fat may be removed.

Secondary Fat Grafting

Successfully grafted fat forms new blood vessels and is semi-permanent.

Fat cells which fail to obtain an adequate blood supply are reabsorbed.

60-70% of grafted fat completes this process within 2-3 months.

If desired, secondary grafting may be performed to enhance results.

If you want to add volume without implants and fillers, definitely consider fat grafting.  But make sure you are fully informed about the procedure, and post-op care before getting anything done.

Many people are interested in Breast Surgery these days, so for those looking in to this procedure, here are a few things that you should remember.

Pre-Operative Instructions

1. You must stop smoking and drinking 1 week prior to surgery.

2. Your medication must be verified with the doctor during consultation.

3. Take medications for blood pressure, diabetes, and thyroid with a little amount of water the morning of surgery.

4. You must avoid eating and drinking, including water, 6~8 hours prior to surgery.

5. You must not drive without a guardian on the day of surgery. 

6. You must wear comfortable clothes with no accessories and must remove all make-up including nail polish before coming to hospital. 

7. You must clean the surgical or incision site; You must shave the armpits before coming to the hospital. 

Post-Operative Instructions

1. Severe swelling is expected 1-3 days after surgery, but gradually disappears. 70~80% of swelling subsides within 2 months, and the rest disappears after 6 months. 

2. Pain on the surgical site may continue for 3-4 days after surgery.

3. Stitches are removed after 5 days, and outpatient treatment for breast massaging begins on 7th day. 

4. A drainage bag may be required, but it will be removed the next day.

5. Sitting position for 1 week is preferred over supine position to promote fast recovery. 

6.You must wear a compression bra or bandage, to firmly place the implants, continuously for 1~2 months. 

7. Wearing a sport bra for 3 months after surgery is recommended.

8. You must avoid driving right after surgery; baths and saunas are prohibited for 1 month.

9. Arm movement should be made after stitch removal.

10. You must avoid smoking and drinking for 1 month after surgery.

11. There is a risk for capsular contracture and infection. Infection can be cured with antibiotics, but for severe cases, implants must be removed. 

12. You must take medication and massage the breasts to prevent capsular contracture.

13. Breast plastic surgery does not affect any breast condition such as cancer. Thus ultrasound and MRI can be rendered regardless of operation
