[BK Plastic Surgery Hospital] For Bright Beautiful Eyes! Post Operative Instructions and Cautionary Tips!

Eyelid Surgery is performed to create larger and more beautiful eyes.
Many people think that once the surgery is done that everything is finished,
But in fact, following the surgery the patient needs to be well informed on the Post-Operative Instructions.
An ample amount of care is also very important.
Today we will share with you the dos and don’ts following Eyelid Surgery.

The Dos and Don’ts

There are many things you have to be cautious about prior to surgery, but it is even more important to manage the areas where surgery was performed to ensure a speedy recovery.

● Ice Pack & Warm Pack

Around 3-5 days after surgery ice packs, provided by the hospital, must be applied to the area for 2-minute intervals.
2 Weeks following surgery applying a warm pack is recommended.
Applying both the ice and warm packs help to get rid of the bruising and swelling around the eyes.

>How long will the Swelling last after Surgery?

The swelling immediately after surgery is not significant, but 2-3 days later is when the swelling is the most severe.
You can rest assured that the swelling will then gradually go down.
For those who experience a lot of swelling, it may take around 1 week for it to subside.
If you want to get rid of the swelling sooner, it is recommended to continue with the ice and warm pack, and to take leisure walks.
You may also want to try eating foods that are known to help reduce swelling.

● Stitch Removal

The stitches around the eyes are usually removed 5-7 days after surgery.
After the stitches are removed it will also be possible for you to lightly wash your face.
It is important to remember that within the first week if you rub the eyes you may injure yourself and cause the stitches to break which can lead to which can lead to scarring.
It’s best to make sure that you refrain from touching the areas where surgery was performed.

● No Smoking & No Drinking Alcohol/ Avoid any Activity that may Cause your Body to Heat Up

It’s advised to refrain from smoking and drinking alcohol after surgery to ensure a speedy recovery.
In order to help the swelling go down, and prevent infection, it is best to wait at least one month before smoking or drinking alcohol.
It is also recommended that you try and avoid saunas or other places that cause your body to heat up, such as saunas.

● After Surgery if the Skin around the Eye is Red, that means you are Recovering,

The redness of the skin may last for 1-3 months, but after that it will gradually fade away.
It is also important to note that the time period of redness also depends on your body’s condition.

● After Surgery, because of the Swelling, the eyes may appear asymmetrical  but as the swelling subsides they will gradually become more symmetrical,

So you don’t have to worry that your eyes came out uneven.
But on the off chance, even after the swelling has subsided, your eyes appear uneven it’s advised to go in for a second consultation.

● Contact Lenses are OK 2-3 weeks following Surgery,

Because the area around the eyes that were performed on may break or be injured if the wounds from surgery are still not completely healed.
This also means that you must refrain from eye makeup (eyeliner, mascara etc.) for the same period of time.
This is because the stimulation of the eye when removing your make may cause the area around the eye to become damaged.

Today we have discussed the dos and don’ts of what to do after having eye surgery!
It is important to remember these tips for your bright and beautiful eyes.
