●● What is Paranasal Augmentation?

Paranasal augmentation surgery helps to inflate the depressed areas above the upper jaw, or maxilla, from the nostrils to the corners of the mouth.  By adding volume to these areas, the nasolabial folds are straightened and a younger appearance is achieved.



●● Do I Need Paranasal Augmentation? Self-Diagnosis

·     Depression between the nostrils and cheeks making the center of the face appear con-caved. ·     Nose tip appears too low. ·     Nasolabial folds run deeper around the nose. ·     Nasolabial folds look emphasized even without sagging cheeks. ·     Depressed areas around the nostrils make the mouth appear as if it protruding. ·     Protruding gums.

●● Surgical Methods of Paranasal Augmentation

There are two main types of surgical methods for Paranasal Augmentation,

The insertion of an implant, or an autologous fat graft.

It is important to find the procedure that best fits you and your needs



＃1. Implant Insertion

With the insertion of an implant the face will appear smaller, and more defined.

This procedure can also help to reduce your protruding mouth.

In the end you will have a softer more feminine image.

▷ Implant Insertion Method



1. Operation is performed under local anesthesia and IV sedation. 2. 1~1.5 cm incisions are made inside the mouth or near the nostrils. 3. Through the incisions, implants such as Silastic or Medpor are inserted underneath the periosteum near the nostrils.

Should a revision or correction be needed the implants are easily removable.  Various customized implant designs often yield highly satisfactory results, and the augmentation is semi-permanent because the implants do not get absorbed.

＃2. Autologous Fat Graft

This procedure harvests fat from areas of the body with excess fat, including the thighs and hips.  This fat is then grafted into the paranasal areas in multiple layers.

BK Plastic Surgery Hospital has made developments that increase the survival rate of grafted fat cells to enhance the results of the procedure.

▷ Autologous Fat Graft Method

1. Fat graft is performed under local anesthesia and IV sedation. 2. Fat is harvested through a thin cannula from the thighs, abdomen, or hip areas. 3. Impurities are then filtered out of the fat cells using a centrifuge. 4. Fat is evenly grafted in several layers from the area around the nostril down to the edge of the lips.

Because the procedure requires no incision there’s no scarring, and recovery time is short.

There’s also little chance of side effects because the fat comes from the patients body.

But because some of the fat may be reabsorbed in to the body, secondary fat grafting may be needed.
