Pre & Post Operative Instructions for Facial Contouring

Many people are interested in Facial Contouring Procedures because of its ability to drastically change your appearance (in a good way).

But unlike any procedures performed on the eyes or nose, Facial Contouring is much more complex.

It is important to have a consultation with a professional who is experienced in facial contouring.

Today we will be discussing the
Pre & Post Operative Instructions for Facial Contouring.

*Pre Operative Instructions*

1. Mostly all Facial Contouring Procedures are performed under general anesthesia so it is important to not eat or drink anything 8 hours prior to surgery.

2. Get a good night sleep before the day of surgery.

3. If you are allergic to any medications or if you are currently on medication please let the doctor know in advance.

4. It is recommended to avoid surgery during your menstrual cycle since hormonal changes can increase bleeding in general.

5. Stop smoking 2 weeks in advance and drinking 3-4 days prior to surgery.

6. Remove your nail polish in advance to allow our monitoring system to be connected at your finger tips.

7. Wear comfortable clothes with no accessories before coming to the hospital.

8. Erase all make-up before coming to hospital.

9.Driving while under the remaining effects of general anesthesia can be dangerous.

10. Water or juice may be had 4~5 hours after surgery, but it is recommended to keep the inside of the mouth clean afterwards.

*Post Operative Instructions*

Ice or Warm pack

For 1~2 days after surgery, you must apply ice packs to minimize swelling and bruising. 3 days after surgery, use a warm pack to help blood circulation and reduce swelling. 

Posture

Staying in the upright position with the upper body elevated helps to reduce swelling. Lying down with the face down or tilting the head is not good.  

Compression Bandage

Compression bandages worn during surgery are checked again on the same day and removed after 1~2 days. 

Food

A liquid diet is recommended for the first week. You may move onto a normal diet after following a soft diet on the 2nd week. Avoid hard or chewy foods during the first month.

Oral Care

Keep your mouth clean with either saline solution or mouthwash 4 times a day to prevent infection and/or irritation. You may start brushing your teeth after 2 weeks with a small tooth brush to prevent irritating the incision spots. 

Other

Avoid drinking and smoking during the first month.

Any bruising or numbness on the surgical sites are temporary.
