Truth and False About Plastic Surgery Q&A

[Truth and False on Eyelid Surgery]

Q1. Non-incisional double eyelid surgery does not last long ?

A1. False.

There are many people who think
that non-incisional method cannot create long lasting results, but that is not true.
It is very important to choose a surgical method that is suitable for you.
Non-incisional method is usually suitable for people with think eyelid skin.
Also, since BK single knot continuously embedded method makes pinches more than 3 times continuously compared to other existing buried suture methods, the results do not get reversed even with frequent irritation and leave no scar.

Q2. Recurrence is common after outer corner extension ?
A2. False.

Through recovery process after surgery, the healing of surgical site may make you think that
the surgery has failed. Back then, extension was only allowed up to 3mm creating dissatisfactory results for patients. However, through anatomical researches at BK, we have come up with a surgical method which can extend up to 5mm without recurrence and have been acknowledged by domestic and international conferences for its effectiveness
that many plastic surgeons have been learning this method and applying to their clinics.

Q3. People with keloid skin type should not receive eyelid surgery ?
A3. False.

Keloid usually forms on places where lots of tension builds on wounds such as
chest, abdomen, shoulder, and earlobes. Thus, Keloid hardly appears on eyelids after eyelid surgery. However, the severity of Keloid varies on individual basis that you must consult with a specialist for accurate information.

Q4. Incisional double eyelid surgery leaves severe scar ?
A4. False.

When incisional double eyelid surgery is performed,
it is true that the scar is more distinctive than when non-incisional method is performed.
However, the scar gradually fades after a certain time period that
you may just recognize it as distinctive double eyelid crease instead of recognizing as scar.

[Truth and False on Nose Surgery]

Q1. Nose surgery prevents piggy nose ?
A1. False.

When one implant is inserted to position both nasal bridge and nasal tip,
there will be a limitation in nose movements.
However, recent surgical method separates the implant for nasal bridge and the cartilage for nasal tip that the natural curve between nasal tip and nasal bridge can be created
without looking odd although you still must watch out for too much elevation of nasal tip.

Q2. Your nose becomes red in winter because of nose surgery ?
A2. False.

People who never had plastic surgery can have red nose
when it is cold.
In these days, instead of L-shaped implants,
autologous cartilages are used for nasal tip surgery that
it does not cause redness in your nose during cold weather.

Q3. When your skin is too thin, you may be able to see the implant underneath ?
A3. True.

You can undergo nose surgery even when your skin on nasal bridge is thin.
However, the implant may have greater chance to be visible than when patients have thick skin
that we delicately adjust the implant to reduce its chance of visibility.
Also, people with thin skin should not elevate their nose too high.

Q4. Deviated nose correction can also fix chronic rhinitis ?
A4. True.

A deviated nose usually has both nasal bone and septal cartilage as deviated.
When the septal cartilage is deviated,
it may cause difficulty in breathing and often lead to chronic rhinitis and sinusitis.
Thus, the deviated nose correction can enhance the airway
that it will also improve overall nasal condition.

[Truth and False on Others]

Q1. Getting plastic surgery in Summer can cause infection ?
A1. False.

Some people may worry that if the weather is hot,
the surgical wound would heal much slower and often get infection.
However, the recovery process does not get affected by weather or season.
Even so, hot weather can actually increase the blood circulation in skin
 which can prevent infection.

A2. False.

Breast augmentation is held on a different location from the mild ducts
that the implants do not interfere with giving birth and breastfeeding.

Q3. Pain after facial contouring surgery is severe and long lasting in the bones ?
A3. False.

Bones do not have any sensation that you cannot feel any pain on the actual bones.
The pain you feel is not from the bones,
but actually from the nerves and muscles that are surrounding
because they are now repositioned according to your new facial structure
during recovery process.

Q4. The surgical sites after liposuction become bumpy ?
A4. False.

If your skin is bumpy after liposuction,
it means that there has been too much fat removal at once
which just caused destruction of skin layers.
At BK Plastic Surgery, we use a thin cannula called ultra-Z
to dissolve fat via ultrasound without damaging nearby tissues
so that the skin surface can be even and smooth.

It is important not to follow wrong information on plastic surgery
because one mistake can change your actual facial features.
